A French judicial body has convicted ten people for carrying out the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced charges of circulating fabrications regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to publishing defamatory statements about the couple's 24-year age gap.
The court delivered conditional custodial sentences of up to eight months to the defendants. The detailed judgment has yet to be released.
A persistent unfounded claim claiming that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has existed since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France comes as the Macrons pursuing a legal action for defamation in the US against political commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared similar conspiracy theories about the Brigitte Macron's gender.
Their complaint alleges that Owens disregarded substantial counter-evidence disproving her claim opting to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has regularly repeated these assertions on her show and online platforms, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would bet her whole career on her conviction that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her future husband when she taught at his lycée.
The pair married in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
